Please forgive the Swedish Chef jokes that may occur from time to time.
It took me a couple of days to get plates and insurance purchased, but then she was on the road!
For a day.
I drove her over to pick up my girlfriend, with the engine struggling the whole time. At the time, I thought the engine was just idling high. The AIC valve was bad when I got it, and the engine was revving high and such...
Turns out I was burning through what little was left of the clutch. The weak clutch (that I couldn't recognize when I bought it, knowing nothing of them) coupled with my inexperience with driving a manual transmission, burnt the clutch right down to nothing.
After having a friend help me get it back home (gotta love trucks and tow chains), I spent the next day calling every shop in town asking if anyone could work on a Saab...
I found ONE shop out of 10, including "European" mechanics, who could only work on BMW's and Mercedes'.
After raising the money for the new clutch (bye bye, piccolo), I was back on the road. Keep n mind, at this point, I was still just trying to drive something, not restore it. A hefty bill was a tough one to swallow, since it cost more than the car itself.
New Clutch: $725
Total to date: $1225.
Special note: Shops and suppliers that I do business that do right by me will be mentioned here. They deserve the boost for the fine work they do.
Albion Muffler and Brake did my clutch in Albion, MI and can be reached at 517-269-9170
